March 31, 2011: First ever 2m EME QSOs from Nepal with DF7KF, I2RV and DF2ZC.

March 30, 2011: Licensing process and customs clearing took in total 2 days. All equipment is now at the High View Resort and antenna installation was completed today. In the late afternoon we started operating with 3 stations in parallel on 10m, 12m and 15m.
There are many power outages and electricity is available only about 12 hours per day! We are investigating the use of a power generator but this solution is quite expensive. Propagation was excellent with a nice opening to the US on 12m and 15m.
Also the 2m antenna is installed. VSWR of this EME antenna is ok and operation will start tomorrow.

GENERAL

The 9N7AN & 9N7WL Amateur Radio activity took place from the High View Resort at 1570 m asl in Dhulikhel, which is located about 25 km from Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, and 127 km west of the Mount Everest. Activity was on all Bands from 160 m to 10 m and on 2m as well. Modes were CW, SSB, RTTY and JT65b on 2m.

TIME SCHEDULE

The 9N7AN team (DK5WL, DK7AN, DL4SVA, DL9GFB) arrived in Dhulikel, Nepal, on March 26 and did stay there until April 8, 2011. 160m to 10m operation started on March 30th, 2m EME operation on March 31.
Ernst DK7AN arrived already in Nepal on March 16th to prepare the 9N7AN activity. He was operating from the Park Village Hotel in Kathmandu since March 18th with a K3 and his Triple Leg antenna:

OPERATION PLAN

Activity with the callsign 9N7AN on all bands from 160m to 10m in CW, SSB and RTTY.

Focus will be given to the low bands and to RTTY since there was no appropriate activity for a few years.

The path to North America is very difficult because it  goes through the polar zone. Openings will be short and signals weak,
especially on the low bands.
Therefore we will ask for "NA only" in case we copy signals from the US or Canada, i.e. stations from other parts of the world should standby  and stop calling.

We are also activating Nepal the first time on 144 MHz in JT65b by Earth-Moon-Earth (EME) communication! Callsign is 9N7WL.
